Learn to Invest, Without the BS: How I Learned to Make My Money Work For Me
When people ask me what I am, I always say “I’m an entrepreneur.”
My first company helped women raise over $30 million in funding and was acquired in 2019.
As great as that sounds, entrepreneurship is not all it’s cracked up to be.
Over my entrepreneurial journey, I have worked 12 hours days, paid myself minimum wage (and often no salary at all), and traded my time and personal life for the pursuit of success.
I started thinking, “There has to be a better way…”
And then it dawned on me, Instead of chasing investors, I should become one. I have all the right connections and knowledge. Why not build a portfolio of startup investments, instead of putting all my eggs in one basket?
And with this new mindset, I did exactly that.
I’m a former US National Champion gymnast, a serial entrepreneur, and now, an angel investor.
People were skeptical. 94% of venture capital investors are men. Even fewer are minority women.
But there’s nothing more satisfying than being underestimated, and then proving people wrong.
I’m done working for money. Now I make my money work for me.
This is why I started The Confident Investor, to teach you how to invest in startups, regardless of your age, income, or experience.
My mission now is to give you access to the knowledge you need to find success., We’re going to talk with some of the most successful investors in the world, to help you build wealth in private markets. Knowing how to invest in private markets is going to be increasingly important going forward.
Private Markets Opening Up
For the first time in recent history, private markets have opened up to all investors. Prior to 2016, it was almost impossible for the average investor to access startup investments. You had to be a wealthy accredited investor.
Everything changed in 2016, and since then startup and other private investing has blossomed into a multi-billion dollar industry. Investors have put more than $500 million into startups using Regulation Crowdfunding.
And now, things are about to get 5x as exciting. The SEC just increased the limit on these “Regulation Crowdfunding” rounds from $1 million to $5 million! This is a huge moment. The higher limit will attract more mature, established startup companies.
All of a sudden, we’re going to have access to invest in “growth stage” startup investments who take advantage of the new higher limit.
We’ll also have access to better, bigger real estate deals. This $5M increase is a game-changer.
The timing is perfect, because today a huge portion of growth happens in private markets. Companies are staying private longer than ever before. They don’t IPO until they’re already huge, and most of the growth is over. So to invest in early-stage tech, you basically have to invest in private startups.
It’s a truly exciting time in this new world of private investing. The Confident Investor aims to be a guide to help investors navigate it.
